Great fun but not for young children Jun 26, 2008
By LW I bought this as a Christmas gift for my husband and his male friends. They had an absolute blast putting this together!
I would NOT recommend this for young children. My husband had to make some modifications, as the joints didn't all line up. And the little ball of clay they give you as a projectile has a tendency to fall apart and leave little bits behind.

Trebuchet Sep 17, 2010
By Renee My son purchased this with his own money and he said it was "well worth it!" I watched him put this together - not too difficult, but it took time and patience and he loved it. This is right up his alley because he loves building, creating, thinking. Now, he shows his friends what he built and they all play with it and tell him how "cool" it is.

"Green Man"
With the weight box we were able to experiment with different weights and how they affected the trajectory. We also bought the catapult and could see the differences in the trajectories between the two. Well designed and well made!

Terrific trebuchet kit Oct 29, 2011
By Lisa Bought this for our son's 8th birthday. He asked for one. This one is pretty big. Assembles very easily with parent help. No sanding required. Only need to wait for glue to dry. Have used it inside only, with corks, foil balls, ping pong balls as projectiles. Works wonderfully. Son is very pleased and proud to show his friends and relatives. Clay ball will dry out. Keep moist in plastic wrap. Couldn't be happier.
Fun toy but not for the very young Mar 18, 2012
By J. Begg Jr. Bought this for an event at work. Some challenges with actually putting together as some of the holes didn't quite line up right and cutting the dowels needed something more than the suggested scissors. The counter-weight box was actually the most difficult item and I found that scotch tape helped to form and glue the item into place really well.
As far as the actual firing of the apparatus it did take some adjusting of the string, pouch, and counter-weight; however, after about 15 minutes we were able to get it to fire some 22-24 feet, pretty amazing. My only complaint was that the pouch didn't hold up and we had to do some repairs where the string tied through. We reinforced it with duct tape and that changed the dynamic of the throw by about 3 feet so we were hitting targets some 19 to 21 feet away. An eyelet would help where the holes are in the pouch, or you could do as I did which was to reinforce it with duct tape.
All in all we fired it over 140 times in about a 2 hour window and other than the pouch it worked flawlessly. We used silly putty as our projectile and that worked great and I would say it might be the best substance cause you can mold it into a ball on the fly pretty easily and flatten one side to sit in the pouch.
Overall a great toy and would be a good project to put together with a child. Definitely a thumbs up!
