I LOVE THESE GUYS!! Feb 24, 2010
By Kristy Watkins
"Pet Owner Extraordinaire"
I have had no luck at all with the full kits with the tanks included, I tried 3 separate times and all three times ended in failure, once it got knocked off the counter, once I have baby monkeys and the temps dropped drastically and they froze to death, and the last time.... They just never hatched.
I had almost given up.
I thought maybe the TANK is the problem for me, I do find it rather ugly, and it's shape lends to accidents waiting to happen, wide and thin and tall, like a domino. And the color schemes aren't very "grown up" neon green, baby blue, pink?! So I bought a small Lee's Betta Hex Keeper, it holds 24 ounces of water. I then ordered two packets of sea-monkeys, each packet needs 10 ounces to work. I followed the directions, using 20 ounces in the betta keeper and leaving the gravel out (the monkeys might get stuck or crushed in the gravel).
4 days later I have a populations EXPLOSION!!! I have so many monkeys I can't even COUNT them!!
I highly suggest if you don't like the look of the sea-monkeys tanks, don't get discouraged, try something else, there's a TON of "betta tanks" here on amazon that would work fantastically for sea-monkeys! All you have to do is be sure to measure how much water you are putting in it. And use distilled water, it works 1000x better.

Sea Monkey Grandma! Mar 06, 2009
By Lauren Rusin My sea monkeys just had babies! They're super fun and I just really like pretending that i can raise things... But yeah! The Sea Monkeys are great, they got big, my original ones have been around for close to two months and now there are little baby specks! Oh! And if you're that sort of person, you can watch them mate.

Get Triops instead. Sep 10, 2008
By H. Michels Sea monkeys can be fun, easy to care for, and educational. However, there are lesser known pets that are arguably more fun, much more educational, and just as easy to care for. Triopses grow much larger in size, are more interesting looking (they have three eyes!) and have more educational value. They've been on earth for so many millions of years, sometimes they are described as living fossils.
Plus, they're better for impatient kids. When they're still growing they double in size every day.
In short, this summarizes the coolness factor: Sea monkeys are just brine shrimp. Triopses will eat brine shrimp.
I gave this toy three stars because it's still basically a good product.

A real Dud Jul 26, 2008
By V. K. Johnson
"school marm"
I ordered it and it got here quickly. I took it to school and told the students all about the wonderful things they would see. I followed the directions to the letter and guess what??? Nothing happened... no sea monkeys at all. Everyday the kids would dash in to see if we had sea monkeys...but alas there were none.
It was extremely disappointing!

they hatched! Mar 18, 2007
By A. E. Walsh I bought a bunch of these as party favors for my daughter's 7th birthday, and everyone who started their sea monkeys has reported that they hatched. Adults may remember experiences when we were younger that the hatch rate was iffy, but the sea monkey stock seems to have been improved. Easy to follow directions (seven year olds need some help), and fun to watch them grow!
