function & form Feb 06, 2009
By Joanne E. Jessop ultra-sturdy and stable, easy to assemble*, beautifully finished, the storage space is genius. it is too heavy for a toddler to pick up so we put felt pads on the bottom so it can be pushed along the bathroom floor. another great quality product from guidecraft
* you need a screwdriver with a short (i.e. 2 or 3 inches) handle to get to some of the screws

Sturdy steps with storage Sep 09, 2008

This top quality step stool is made of sturdy, thick, real wood construction that is strong and firm, with beautiful detailing. The animals are not just painted on, but hand carved. The table is a good size for "just-beginning-hang-on-to-things" to about 6 years old. We bought this for my 3-year old grandson and he stores his music instruments in it (tambourine, cymbals, whistles, and sheet music), so the compartment is quite roomy. This heirloom quality piece is extremely sturdy and next to impossible to tip over. It also makes a great extra seat if you have the table and chairs set. And Guidecraft backs their product. We needed to replace a part on another Safari item we bought (that we broke, not Guidecraft's fault) and after one phone call (to a real person) we were sent the new part within a week at no charge for the part or even for shipping! We love the entire Safari set (we also bought the coordinating bookrack, table & chairs set, toy chest, rocking chair, and director's chair), and it will be in our family for decades!

Much of the paint peeled unfortunately. Aug 31, 2010

This product looked great when I received it, and my kids loved it. However, I use it in the bathroom so they can wash their hands, and much of the paint, especially around the raised portions has peeled off. Very upset, now shopping for a new stool with better quality.

Poor construction, easily broken Jul 07, 2009
By Jen We had trouble putting this stool together, but did finally get it to the point where it was sturdy enough for use. But then less than 6 months later, our son stepped down on the bottom step a bit too hard and it totally broke through. The particle board was not sturdy enough and the screws just broke through the top. Yikes!

Nice stepping stool - good for reaching sink in bathroom May 20, 2009
By Christian Easy to assemble, functional and good looking little stepping stool.
My two years old boy can now learn to wash his hands in style.
Engraved figures (not just painted) is a nice touch.
He likes to put toys in the bench (top step opens to reveal a small storage space). All in all a nice item!
NOTE: only 3 stars on durability because some of the attachment hardware fell off (got loose) and needed to be refitted. It's similar to ikea furniture assembly. Not perfect but adequate for the job.
