Big Hit with K-5 Crowd Apr 03, 2009

My 4th grade son and his friends have been hit hard with the 'Giant Microbe' bug. This age group loves to collect and compare things (like Pokemon, U.B. Funkeys, etc.) and these Giant Microbes fit the bill. As a parent, I see the toys themselves as relatively benign smallish stuffed plushes. The information tags attached to each microbe give interesting facts about the causes, effects, and cures for each 'microbe,' giving them some educational value. Parents be warned, however - some of the microbes represent ... ummm, mature ... diseases, so be prepared to either divert your child to the more innocent ones (such as Mad Cow) or to discuss with your child why he cannot take his Herpes to school.
Great gag gift Feb 04, 2012
By B. Olinger These are durable little critters that provide great shock value. A germ-a-phobe friend of mine laughed and laughed upon receiving several of these from me. They seem really well made and the tag included with each one is great. The tags tend to make the reader more conscious of the disease, saying things like "once in your food, this cannot be cooked out", which makes them great for gag gifts. Also, educationally, these would probably be great too, as the tags describe at length what each disease is, how it is constructed, and what it does. They seem factual, yet humorous.
Awesome! Dec 08, 2011
By LadyJai Bought these for my son (8) who is so fascinated with science. We discuss what the microbe is and does to the human body. He loves them, and now wants his own microscope!
Great Prize Jul 06, 2011
By milkm23 These are great prizes for science fairs or any class related project. I gave them to the top three place finishers in the New York State Science Olympiad "Microbe Mission" event. Both the MS and HS division winners loved them equally with the HS kids possibly more so.
The Perfect Gift for the Science Geek Jan 16, 2011
By Marlene As a toy, this little thing is overpriced, but as a fun gift for your favorite science geek, or even your biology teacher, it's priceless. My daughter, now in AP Biology, thought this was awesome.
