Great Fun for Groups Jul 29, 2008 I purchased several Globonz sets for kids ages 8-14 to play with in groups during a summer class during which we explored real and mythical animals. Turning the Globonz sets into a game made it more fun for everyone.
I simply made up some spinners (purchased blank at an education supply store) with categories as follows: Add a bone from your pile; Add a bone from someone else's pile; Remove a bone from the creature; Draw a bone from the fossil bin; Skip this turn. Then I had each player draw 3 bones from the "fossil bin" just as one might draw 3 cards from a deck. The players took turns, spinning and adding/subtacting bones (or drawing from the fossil bin if they couldn't move) until they had completed a symmetrical creature. Then they had to make up a name for the creature & describe its habitat, what it ate, and any special skills it had.
As a group activity, this was really fun. And the best part was turning off the lights and making the bonz glow. However, as an individual activity (or even a group activity without the spinners), I think kids would get bored of it more quickly.
In short, purchase the globonz, and then find a way to make a game out of it!

underwhelmed Jun 19, 2008 My 5 year old was underwhelmed by this gift.
When I bought it I didn't understand how large the pieces were. From the pictures I was thinking they were small, lego-sized pieces. But they are larger -- think Duplo sized or larger. So it has a more "preschool" feel than I was expecting.
More importantly, my son created a few interesting creatures but the pieces attach so loosely that none were able to stand up by themselves...they'd all collapse.
They also weren't as versatile as some building toys. I guess I was picturing a sort of dinosaur-themed Bionicle set.
This toy is more fun than the similar "Cootie" toy from my childhood, but still not as fun as we'd hoped.

More fun than a barrel of monkeys! May 30, 2003 Great for children who like to build or solve puzzles. Keeps them busy for hours.

disappointed Jan 04, 2003 Even though I love the idea behind this toy, I feel they should have worked harder on having the pieces stay interconnected. The first few times my child created something, it would fall apart easily. He could not hold it up to "show" us what he did.

hours of fun!! Dec 29, 2002 My 5 year old boy received this as a "santa gift." This by far was his favorite toy this christmas! He spends alot of time making monsters to scare his little sister. The container is great for storage too! I am definately going to order the larger set next time!
