5A fun mess!  Jan 15, 2007
By T. Swank
I bought this set for my 8-year-old brother. He wanted to dig up the dinosaur right away!

The tool included is plastic and about as sharp as a plastic butter knife, so your child should be safe, which was my main concern.

The only downside to this set is it is very dusty. Also, you put together the dinosaur with the provided wax, which is definitely an adult supervision task.

4dino digs  Oct 18, 2007

Wow does this make a mess, but your kids will love it! Have them do it on top of a large cookie sheet to contain the mess. It will keep them amused for hours "digging for bones"..a great indoor winter project!

5Educational and Fun Project  May 19, 2011
By J. Cieslak
My 13 y.o. son has toyed with the idea of becoming a Paleontologist, so this was right up his alley. He thoroughly enjoyed excavating the bones from the block of clay and piecing the dinosaur together. Things can get a little dusty in the process, so I would recommend a tray or large towel to contain the clay. Great toy - educational - and kept him busy for a couple of hours.

I purchased this for my second grade class to enhance our fossils unit. My students were very excited to take their turn at digging for "fossils". It can be rather messy, so use a cookie sheet covered with paper to help control the mess. It was well worth it and I definitely would do this again. One problem we had was the easy breakage of the parts when putting the parts together. I ended up super gluing the dinosaur while the students watched. I also purchased a Smithsonian kit and will use that one at our open house next week and then compare the two products
