Good product, good customer support. Jan 16, 2004
I bought this product for my 6-year-old daughter. When I first opened the box, I was a little disappointed. I thought it was a little over priced for 2 small bags of powder and some instructions.
On top of that, the "mixture" didn't harden (even after 5 days it still wouldn't harden). So we threw it away and called the company's customer support number on the instructions. They were friendly and helpful. They shipped a new bag via 2 day air to Hawaii for free.
We tried it again, only this time used about 1/3rd the amount of water listed on the instructions and it worked perfectly. My daughter loved it. She created the mold and painted it.
Overall, it's a good product. It allows children to follow instructions and create something rather than simply "play."

Worst Kit Ever! Jul 26, 2010
By snoochies This has got to be the worst mold kit ever! I purchased two of the kits to do my boys' hands. We followed the directions exactly and the first mold caved in on itself. I figured it had too much water, even though I used the exact amount called for, and used less water. Well, same thing happened so it was a waste of $30. I finally researched it on the internet and found a great ship called Casting Keepsakes that sells easiest most kid friendly casting kit I have ever used. I work at a daycare so I have a lot of experience with this stuff and their kit is superb. The mold firms up in about a minute so it is easy to use on even small children. The mold powder changes color as it is mixed with water so it lets you know when to put your hand in. I will never go back to the Eyewitness kits again after using a quality product like this. The detail is wonderful. I wanted to share it with everyone who has problems with these kits that are in the craft stores now. It is so much better quality than what is used in the eyewitness sets.

School Project Aug 20, 2004
By J. Fesalbon An excellent project for your child's school report. We purchased the Velociraptor kit for our 8 year old daughter not knowing what to expect. After opening the package my wife came up with the clever idea of pouring melted chocolate chips into the dinosaur molds, instead of using the plaster mix that comes with the kit. We experimented with white chocolate chips and created realistic looking dinosaur bones! We buried these edible bones in ground up Oreo Cookies. What a thrill to see our daughter's 2nd grade class excavate these delectible prehistoric fossils! We can't wait to purchase other kits in the Eyewitness series!
What a disappointment! Apr 20, 2011
By Mom in ME I received this kit as a gift and ended up throwing it out. I was very excited to make a mold of my 6 months old's hands. What a great idea! However, you need a PHD to figure out how to do that with the provided instructions. If you are buying this to make a mold of your child, don't bother. Find another kit meant for that purpose. I should also mention that I write user documentation for a living and my hobby is using molds to fuse glass and I still couldn't figure out this product.
