not really made in USA; other brands are better quality Aug 20, 2009
By anonymous The "Blocks and Marbles" set is a much higher quality than these Amaze-n Marbles. These have huge variations in the quality of wood pieces; some are really porous lightweight woods that are rough around the edges (not splintery, just porous and rough, think dried up sponge). The blocks with the holes are really rough inside. The tracks are fine, a denser smoother wood, though the wood stains are a bit muddy. The "Blocks and Marbles" sets have tight grain wood with clean cuts and smoothly sanded holes. These don't have as satisfying a clatter when the towers and tracks fall, or as nice a feel in hand. Also, the box has a sticker that says "assembled in the USA, some parts may have been made in China." Returned these and got two sets of the others instead. The shapes are generally the same and both brands are compatible with each other.
Oh yes, that's the other thing with both of these -- you need to use support blocks between the tracks so that the marbles can go through. So get the biggest set you can afford (or multiple sets).

the perfect gift for ages over 3 yrs. Jul 01, 2008

This is a toy I love to take down from the shelf. My 3 and 5 year old boys love it! It is easy to build marble runs, watch your marble go, add on new pieces and they are using their brains all the while. This is a toy that will likely get even better for our boys as they get older and more able to engineer some multi level marble runs. For now, I mostly work with them so they aren't frustrated if the tower falls over as we build it. Its awesome!

Great for Kids and Parents Oct 06, 2010
By S. E. Mansfield This is the ultimate parent/child interaction set for my family. I love setting up the runs, and the boys love to help place the blocks and drop the marbles. We all get thrills from the lovely sounds and sights of the marbles dropping.
Like other reviewers have mentioned, this set is a little rough around the edges aesthetically, but for the price per number of blocks, I prefer this over the more polished version. Its functionality is wonderful, and we're having fun.

Great learning Toy Dec 17, 2009

If your child is creative, this is the toy they will love.
My seven year old grandson first looked at it like, 'what is this?', but when I showed him how it worked, he played with it the rest of the morning. Creating his own maze's and even built one on which two people, he plus grandma or grandpa, could 'race' the marbles through the maze. Great fun. Takes you back to the 'good old days' of Lincoln Logs, erector sets and other creative toys.
Highly recommended. PS: Toys R Us has a larger fancier one for [...]. This one does the job for one fourth of that without the over kill.

endless possibilities Jun 30, 2009
By K. Smith Amaze-N-Marbles 60-Piece Set I bought this for my ten year old son. As a young child, he loved constructing the wooden train tracks for his Thomas trains and this set has renewed his love of creating mazes in a much higher-level way! I recommend this building set for any child that enjoys endless building possibilities. He has learned about gravity without even realizing it! His mazes are more creative with each construction. I'm so glad I bought it!
