Durable, high quality magnets Jun 05, 2010
By M. Heiss This is a great set -- it comes with two horseshoe magnets, a bar magnet, a vial of iron slubs and a vial of iron filings. The magnets are durable -- despite being dropped on tile floors and outside on the concrete. Recommended for anybody.
We use it with two magnet books:
1) What Makes a Magnet? (Let's Read and Find Out) 2) Magnets (All Aboard Science)
It's perfect for a summer homeschool science unit or just fooling around.
MAGNETS ARE REAL -- they are not for kids who might eat them.

The Magnets are too small Jan 05, 2012
By J. Yang I bought the set for the science project I'm doing with my kid. The magnets are way too small to do actual science experiment. It's a nice toy if your kid just wants to play around. I couldn't make a compass out of it. We tried to make needle magnet, but it didn't last more than one and half minutes.

Strong magnets, good kit overall Jul 01, 2011
By customer from Foster City, CA I wanted a magnet kit for some simple science experiments for my 7-year old daughter.
This kit had everything I was looking for: 2 horseshoe magnets, 1 bar magnet, a tube of iron filings and a tube of (very) tiny steel pieces.
The magnets are small but strong. A booklet of magnet related experiments would have been a big plus. Overall, a decent value for money.

I bought this kit for my 8-year old boy science project focused on magnetism. The kit comes with nice magnets and good iron filings to visualize magnetic field. My son and his friends played with it for a while but got bored shortly thereafter. Great kit for educational purposes and (somewhat limited) fun.

My grandson loved these magnets. They are good and strong - one flew right out of his hand and attacked the fridge! He's having lots of fun and learning, too. We bought a couple of books on the topic of Magnets. Jury is out on which book he liked best or is most effective teaching tool.
